“A supportive shared living community for seniors, veterans, and those rebuilding their lives.”
At Broken Chain Living, we believe In a Memphis where no elder is forgotten, no veteran is left behind, and no returning citizen is denied ' the opportunity to rise
Broken Chain Living was born from compassion, resilience, and the belief that everyone deserves a second chance. Founded by Kaia Hastings, a proud Memphis native and lifelong advocate for community empowerment, Broken Chain Living was created to meet a deep need — safe, supportive housing for seniors, veterans, and returning citizens who deserve the dignity of living independently while being part of a caring community.
Kaia’s vision took root after years of service in public safety and community leadership. As a Senior Parole Officer and later leader of the City of Memphis Park Ranger Program, she witnessed how many individuals — despite their best efforts — struggled to rebuild their lives because of limited resources and opportunity. She saw good people fall through the cracks, not from lack of will, but from lack of support.
That realization became a calling. Broken Chain Living represents more than a business — it is a movement to break the cycle of struggle, remove barriers, and open doors to stability and hope. Here, residents find not just a home, but a family of support. Through access to mental health resources, life-skills development, and community connection, each person is given the opportunity to heal, grow, and thrive again.
The name Broken Chain Living reflects freedom — freedom from the weight of the past, freedom from isolation, and freedom to rebuild a future. Each broken link symbolizes a life renewed and a step toward something greater.

Kaia Hastings, a proud Memphis native raised in the rural areas of the city, is the founder of Broken
Chain Living, a transitional housing program dedicated to providing second chances for formerly
incarcerated individuals, veterans, seniors, and those who have lost stable housing.
The name “Broken
Chain Living” reflects the organization’s mission: breaking the chains of the past—whether they are
cycles of incarceration, homelessness, or hardship—so individuals can begin truly living again with
hope, independence, and purpose.
Kaia holds a Bachelor’s degree in Criminal Justice Administration and a Master’s degree in Justice and
Security, blending her educational background with a deep passion for community service. With more
than 8 years of experience in the criminal justice field and over 15 years in customer service, she brings
a unique perspective and skill set to her work. She is widely recognized for her commitment to
organization, compassion, and her ability to create opportunities that empower individuals to rebuild
their lives.
Known for her strength in leadership, motivation, and vision, Kaia is driven to restore hope and create
safe, supportive spaces where individuals can thrive. Through Broken Chain Living, she continues her
lifelong mission to help others break free from barriers and embrace a renewed future.

Our Mission:
To create safe, affordable, and empowering shared-living communities that help seniors, veterans, and returning citizens rebuild their lives with dignity, independence, and purpose.
Our Vision:
A Memphis where no elder is forgotten, no veteran is left behind, and no returning citizen is denied the opportunity to rise again.
Our Values:

Hello, I’m Kaia Hastings, Founder of Broken Chain Living.
I started this journey with one purpose — to give people a place to start over. Over the years, I’ve met so many men and women who simply needed someone to believe in them. I’ve seen veterans forgotten, elders overlooked, and returning citizens trying to rebuild after life knocked them down. I knew something had to change — and I wanted to be part of that change.
Broken Chain Living was created from both pain and purpose. It represents freedom — freedom from the weight of the past and the barriers that hold people back. Every chain that breaks is a story of strength, a new chapter, and a reminder that no one is beyond redemption.
As a Memphis native, a mother, and someone who’s walked beside individuals seeking hope, I built this program to serve the people who too often get left behind. Here, we don’t judge where you’ve been — we focus on where you’re going.
At Broken Chain Living, we provide more than housing; we provide a chance — a chance to rebuild, reconnect, and rediscover your purpose. We help residents live independently while having the support, resources, and respect they need to move forward with dignity.
My prayer is that every person who walks through our doors feels seen, valued, and empowered. Whether you’re a resident, volunteer, or supporter, you’re part of something greater — a community that believes in second chances and the power of healing together.
Welcome to Broken Chain Living — where chains are broken, and new beginnings begin.
With gratitude,
Kaia Hastings
