Our Story
Broken Chain Living was born from compassion, resilience, and the belief that everyone deserves a second chance. Founded by Kaia Hastings, a proud Memphis native and lifelong advocate for community empowerment, Broken Chain Living was created to meet a critical need: safe, supportive independent housing for seniors, veterans, and seniors returning from incarceration who deserve the dignity of living independently while still being part of a caring community.
Kaia’s vision grew from years of dedicated service in public safety and community leadership. As a Senior Parole Officer and later as a leader within the City of Memphis Park Ranger Program, she witnessed firsthand how many individuals—despite their efforts—struggled to rebuild simply because they lacked stable, appropriate housing. She saw capable, motivated people fall through the cracks, not from lack of will, but from lack of opportunity and support.
That experience became a calling.
Broken Chain Living represents more than housing — it is a commitment to helping seniors stabilize, rebuild independence, and reenter the community with dignity and structure. The program is intentionally designed to provide a warm, dry, safe, and respectful living environment, where residents can regain a sense of control, privacy, and confidence as they move forward.
Here, residents find not only a place to live, but a community grounded in accountability, encouragement, and respect. Through access to community resources, transportation coordination, and supportive connections, residents are given the opportunity to rebuild stability and thrive.
The name Broken Chain Living symbolizes freedom — freedom from past limitations, freedom from instability, and freedom to rebuild a stronger future. Every broken link represents a life renewed and a step toward independence, purpose, and hope.
