What is Broken Chain Living?

Broken Chain Living is a supportive independent housing program for seniors. We provide clean, stable housing for seniors, including veterans and seniors returning from incarceration, who are able to live independently and are seeking a safe place to rebuild stability and independence.


Is Broken Chain Living a group home?

No. Broken Chain Living is not a group home, shelter, halfway house, or treatment facility. Residents live independently and are responsible for managing their daily living needs.


Is this assisted living or a medical facility?

No. Broken Chain Living does not provide medical care, nursing care, or 24/7 supervision. Residents must be able to live independently and manage their own personal and medical needs.


Who is eligible for housing?

Individuals may be eligible if they:

  • Are 60 years of age or older
  • Are veterans and/or seniors returning from incarceration
  • Are able to live independently
  • Have stable, verifiable income
  • Are willing to follow house rules and community expectations

Do you accept veterans?

Yes. Broken Chain Living proudly serves veterans who meet our age and independent living requirements.


Do you accept individuals returning from incarceration?

Yes. Broken Chain Living serves seniors returning from incarceration who are committed to rebuilding their lives and meet program eligibility requirements.


What income is required?

Residents must have stable, verifiable income such as Social Security, SSI, SSDI, VA benefits, pension, disability income, or employment income sufficient to meet program fees.


Is this transitional or permanent housing?

Broken Chain Living provides supportive independent housing. Length of stay is determined based on individual needs, program guidelines, and availability. This is not emergency or short-term shelter housing.


Do you provide medical, mental health, or substance abuse treatment?

No. Broken Chain Living is not a treatment program. Residents are responsible for managing their own healthcare and may be connected to community resources as needed.


What is included in the housing?

Housing may include:

  • Safe, clean living space
  • Utilities and basic furnishings (as applicable)
  • Community environment
  • Transportation coordination and access
  • Connection to community resources

Do you accept individuals who require 24/7 supervision or medical care?

No. Broken Chain Living is designed for individuals who can live independently and do not require around-the-clock medical, nursing, or personal care.


Are applications currently open?

How do agency referrals work?

Agencies may refer eligible individuals when referrals are open. Referrals are reviewed to determine eligibility, independent living ability, and overall program fit.


What makes someone not a good fit?

Broken Chain Living may not be a good fit for individuals who:

  • Require 24/7 medical or clinical care
  • Are unable to live independently
  • Do not have stable income
  • Are unwilling to follow house rules and community expectations

Broken Chain Living currently serves seniors in the Memphis, Tennessee area.


How are housing costs determined?

Program fees are based on income and availability. Broken Chain Living is committed to providing affordable options for seniors on fixed or limited incomes.
